www.elections.tn.gov.in Voters List 2025 2026: As Tamil Nadu gears up for the crucial 2026 Assembly Elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a major step by publishing the Draft Electoral Roll on December 19, 2025, following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

This revision, with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, aims to ensure a clean, accurate, and updated elections.tn.gov.in Voters List by removing ineligible entries and adding new eligible voters. The SIR was conducted intensively across the state, involving door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to verify existing voters, identify deceased or shifted individuals, eliminate duplicates, and enroll young voters turning 18. This exercise is particularly significant for poll-bound states like Tamil Nadu, where maintaining the integrity of the electoral rolls is vital for free and fair elections.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Tamil Nadu, the main reasons for deletions include approximately 26.94 lakh due to deaths, 66.44 lakh permanently shifted or migrated voters, around 3.39 lakh duplicates, and others marked as absent or untraceable. The ECI emphasizes that this is a transparent process with reasons provided for each deletion, and separate ASD (Absent/Shifted/Dead) lists are available for verification.
However, the scale of deletions over 15% statewide and up to 35% in urban areas like Chennai — has sparked controversy. Several political parties and analysts have raised concerns, alleging that genuine voters, especially migrants or those temporarily away, might have been unfairly removed. Critics argue that the intensive nature of SIR could lead to disenfranchisement if not handled carefully.
On the other hand, the ECI maintains that the process follows strict guidelines for maximum inclusion, with opportunities for appeals and corrections. Over 5.43 crore electors submitted enumeration forms during the first phase, showing high participation. Now, the focus shifts to the claims and objections period, giving voters a chance to rectify any errors before the final roll is published on February 17, 2026.
Key Facts (From Official CEO Tamil Nadu Press Conference):
- Previous total voters: 6,41,14,587 (as on October 27, 2025)
